Orange & Rockland Making A Difference–STEM Projects in School Classrooms
Our tenant Orange & Rockland is inspiring teachers in the surrounding counties, and has announced that $35,000 of grants will go towards innovative classroom STEM projects! Earlier in January, O&R began supporting classroom projects and teacher professional-development initiatives.
Of their grant budget, O&R plans to make 35 STEM Classroom Grants of up to $1,000 each to be awarded to educators at schools from pre-kindergarten age groups through grade 12, along with awards to youth group leaders for the 2018-2019 school year in communities located within the O&R service area.
Classrooms eligible are as follows, “Any creative classroom project designed to improve, advance and enrich student learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics will be considered. Grants will be awarded based on a review by the O&R STEM Education Advisory Council, a panel of educators and engineers assembled by O&R expressly for this process. Resources requested should be integral components of a well-planned classroom project/lesson plan and important to its success. O&R seeks educational proposals that range from formative ideas that explore learning concepts to fully tested models that are ready to be adopted and disseminated. Ideally, the successful proposal would focus on the study of electricity and electricity production, natural gas exploration, renewables, and clean energy.”
What a fantastic initiative O&R has started for the 2018 year! To apply to the Grants Program, you can visit www.oru.com/STEM for the application. There is a deadline! The application must be received by O&R no later than 5 p.m. on March 31, 2018, and the grants chosen will be awarded in May. Visit the O&R website for more information!
