Orange & Rockland Provides “Cool Tips” for the Summer Months

Summer is officially here! The sweltering heat and humid weather has surely made its appearance in Orange and Rockland counties these past few weeks.
With temperatures climbing, Orange & Rockland offers their best “cool tips” on how to use energy wisely during the summer months.

In order to beat the heat and save energy while at home:
—Set your thermostat as high as your comfort and health needs allow.
—Turn off A/C units, lights, and other appliances when not at home. (Consider using a smartphone timer to turn on your A/C shortly before arriving home, so it is not running continuously.)
—Run appliances early in the morning or late in the evening when it is cooler outdoors. This will reduce heat and moisture. To ensure appliances are as energy efficient, replace older ones with Energy Star appliances.
—Reserve baking, cooking, or other household activities that produce heat and humidity for the cooler times of the day and evening hours.
—Keep shades, blinds, curtains, and doors closed to minimize the amount of heat entering your home.
